Weapons

Weapons charges include:

• Carrying concealed weapons
• Possession of unlawful or stolen weapons
• Armed robbery; aggravated assault
• Felon in possession of a firearm

Individuals in Florida are allowed to carry concealed weapons but only after passing strict licensing requirements. If someone is found to be carrying a concealed weapon without the proper license, that person can face a charge that is a third-degree felony punishable up to five years in prison. Even if the weapon is not going to be concealed, Florida still imposes strict guidelines on gun ownership in general. All gun purchases must be properly registered with the state. If someone is found to possess a gun who has not passed through the ownership registration requirements could be found guilty of illegal weapons possession, and the charges that accompany that situation are severe in nature.
The penalties associated with a conviction under a weapons possession charge range from a fine to several years in prison if convicted of a felony. Minimum mandatory sentences are usually associated with weapon charges. If the sentences are not waived by prosecutors, they must be imposed by the court.
